Frequently Asked Questions
How do we find you in Mestia?
Contact me through FB, email (add me to contacts so my replies won't end up elsewhere) or phone. We will meet in Mestia center (Seti Square) to discuss details and plan your trip. You can also call me dialing: 995-596-116-001 (whatsapp or mobile)
The only time I won't be able to respond is when I am out in the mountains or skiing in winter.
Are there more people on the same trip? Or only us?
Only you (no matter how large or small is your group). Unless you choose to hike with someone you met on the way (or at the guesthouse). I also offer trips/climbs for small groups (2-4 participants who don't know each other) that is formed in advance. Great option for those who travel alone.
How do we pay for your service?
You pay either in euro, US dollars or British pounds . No advance payment is necessary. Make sure you have the amount BEFORE our trip starts (you will save by bringing cash instead of ATM withdrawal).
What is the best time for hiking?
From the middle of June to the end of October. There are blooming meadows in June-July and autumn colours in October. Warmest month is August. Weather is of course different every year and it is impossible to predict with any certainty. But even if we you get caught in the rain and clouds, we will see the mountains take on an atmospheric appearance which can be very dramatic. Look here for more info.
Will you recommend a guesthouse in Mestia and elsewhere?
I am not a tour operator. However I may (on request) recommend guesthouses which are good enough and where my previous clients stayed without being unhappy about the choice. Also I may suggest a reliable transfer from Kutaisi airport and transportation between different regions of Svaneti.
Can I bring my child on a trip?
In most cases yes.
What level of fitness and experience is required for these trips?
These hikes are not for those setting record times but the average person. Most trips I offer are challenging but not extremely so to make them unpleasant, nor too little to become boring. Ideally you will undertake some preparation first. Lots of walking in your local area will help strengthen your legs. Cycling is also good for building up those muscles. Swimming is good all round exercise that can help prepare you.
Multi-day and climbing trips are more demanding as they are on higher altitudes and follow steeper terrain. But even for them you don't have to be a super hiker/climber.
How do we know what trip to choose? They all seem to be equally great.
I will certainly help you to choose the best option taking many factors into consideration such as weather, snow conditions, fitness level and so on. Our first meeting in Mestia will be the best time to work out a plan. My customers always say that flexibility is among my main virtues!
What should we do if your services are already booked?
Not the end of the world! I will recommend someone who is experienced and reliable. There are number of excellent guides who are perfectly up to task.
