Three summits of Layla

Just as any  big mountain  (like Monte  Rosa in the Alps) Layla has more than one summit.
So which one to choose? Their elevation being almost equal (South 4000m, Central 4008m, North 4001m) makes  little difference.
Our goal is to reach the top, also enjoy the views and have an exciting climbing experience.
What  DOES make difference is the route   we choose.  Central and North peaks are  climbed most often.  Things I always take into consideration:
  • Weather forecast (each route has different  micro weather)
  • Glacier conditions (some routes are  too tricky in bad weather)
  • Fitness and experience  (icy traverse above cliffs is not an option for some people)
My knowledge is based on many years of experience climbing Layla in  any possible condition (from June to November) and guiding people of different abilities. You can be sure I will choose the best option  for you to enjoy the climb and return to valley unharmed.
And last (but not least) is an aesthetic value of different routes.  In terms of views the North summit offers the best  of all.

Horses on approach to Layla

Most people choose a 3-day option  for climbing  Mt.Layla (4008m). From my extensive experience with groups of various   ages and fitness levels   I must stress that this is NOT an easy task. However I don't remember anyone who gave up and turned back!
The first day involves  an impressive elevation gain of 1800m. Early morning start and lunch break at Lashira make all the difference.
Yet, the most help comes from  local horses each of whom able carry up to 3 backpacks.
Initially some people consider this help as some way of getting around the challenge...
They always change their mind  soon after leaving the village.  Even  going light is not easy!
Saving energy for the next (summit) day is imperative.  Moreover you enjoy the landscape without  excessive  sweat!
Some groups choose to  hire horses even  for return trip! But this is completely optional.

How to book this horse service ?
I will do this for you and will negotiate the  lowest rate.

Note for animal lovers (all of us are!)
Although  this whole job is  far from easy, horses are always treated well and given frequent breaks . At least once all the load is completely removed  for total rest and  relaxed grazing .

Some important tips:
  • Bring small/light backpack for snack, water, documents, money
  • Pack your guesthouse breakfast instead of  finishing it all
  • There is enough  water on the way so 1L is all you need
  • Light hat is essential on sunny day
  • Pack boots and wear your trail shoes
  • Things should be well attached to your backpack.    No sharp items!
  • Load must be  balanced. Pack  for equal weight!
